Why is a minecraft server forums arguing about a virus in china? Because not everything has to be about Minecraft? Imagine getting kicked from your sports club because you talked to a teammate about something else than sport.

To be honest, I’m not really worrying about the virus right now. Obviously because I live far away from China and we have no direct planes going to China. But annually around 61,000 people die from the flu, I’m not really sure why people are worrying so much about the corona virus. It’s a normal flu, but there just aren’t any vaccines for it yet. Although (I thought it was) 160 people have died so far from the 7000 infected (that is a big death rate). Most of them were elderly, or already were sick or something. If you live healthy and aren’t that old yet, you’re fine. I might be totally wrong or misunderstood information, but I just don’t get it why people worry about it so much. More people have got better after the Corona virus than died.

The reason people are worried is that you can get this virus without going to China, which will only become more common over time as this virus is spreading exponentially. Also if your age is anything close to the average age of this server, aka young, your chances of dying to this virus are not as low as you'd think.

Johnson&Johnson estimates that children 0-3 months, and the elderly (65+) are under the most severe risk. Children under 18 are also under risk, just not nearly as substantial. And finally, adults age (18-64) are under the least amount of risk. Nonetheless, this virus can be transmitted a heck of a lot easier than your common cold, and thus, should be treated as such. Having a respiratory infection is not something you want to underestimate, by any means.

TO THOSE OF YOU WHO INITIALLY DOWNPLAYED THE STRENGTH OF THIS VIRUS: The World Health Organization just declared coronavirus a “Global Health Emergency”. The decision reversed the organization’s decision just a week ago to hold off such a declaration. Since then, W.H.O. officials said, thousands of new cases in China and clear human-to-human transmission in several other countries — now including the United States — warranted a reconsideration of that decision by the agency’s expert committee. The W.H.O.’s declaration — officially called a “public health emergency of international concern” — does not have the force of law. But it serves notice to all United Nations member states that the world’s top health advisory body thinks the situation is grave. The Coronavirus situation may not seem serious to people not in heavily affected (e.g mass quarantined) areas (and it really isn't, at least not yet), we should always be ready for a worst-case scenario. Obviously advances in medicine have been huge in the last century, and that will undoubtedly help us find a solution to the virus. However, we as a species shouldn't be so naive that we perceive this as something that doesn't, and will never, affect us personally. One must also remember that China is the largest country by population, and due to this the virus to spread exponentially, at least within China (for now).
While the Coronavirus itself so far appears to be quite infectious (it is airborne, and easy to transmit from person to object, etc), the symptoms are nowhere near as severe as Ebola (since that was mentioned). Taken directly from the CDC website, the primary symptoms of Coronavirus include but are not limited to:
-Runny nose -Headache -Cough -Sore throat -Fever -A general feeling of being unwell
While the symptoms of Ebola (from the same source) are as follows:
-Fever -Aches and pains, such as severe headache, muscle and joint pain, and abdominal (stomach) pain -Weakness and fatigue -Gastrointestinal symptoms including diarrhea and vomiting -Abdominal (stomach) pain -Unexplained hemorrhaging, bleeding or bruising
Here are some more facts about the situation:
-Coronavirus is not a single entity or pathogen, rather a blanket term for extremely common causes of common cold symptoms. -Coronavirus is zoonotic, meaning it can transfer between certain species of animals, including Homo sapiens. -Not every Coronavirus is able to infect Homo sapiens.
I'm not at all trying to downplay the current or hypothetical/potential severity of this Coronavirus; It is obviously very unfortunate that this has all happened. However, it is extremely likely that given the currently known symptoms of the virus, a healthy individual with a functioning immune system will be able to destroy the virus in a matter of days.
TL;DR: Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

-Coronavirus is not a single entity or pathogen, rather a blanket term for extremely common causes of common cold symptoms. Well yeah, but at this point i feel like we either need to get a new name for this virus or just get a new blanket term, since everyones using it anyway (the WHO is calling it Novel coronavirus or nCov which is decent ig) language really b changing up on us and shit, we live in a society

Also referred to as Wuhan Coronavirus unofficially, but as a more specified descriptor than just beer virus
