I am voicing my opinion on the matter for when we do have a new owner. I'm not commanding anyone to do anything, nor telling someone specific to stay on ProBoards or switch to something else. Of course no one can make that call yet, this is my view for when the new owner does make the call. Apologies, clearly mis-underood your point. A lot of people seem to want to make the change now which is what I'm currently trying to argue against. Certainly not against binning Flarum in the future, so far my experience of it as a sys admin is that it's poorly built shite, but I'd rather us use something we had stood up before then ignore what we already had in place  Right, just missed the rest of the posts above. I personally like the aesthetics of Flarum over ProBoards, but there are two problems. One, we have none of the Flarum data. It would be impossible for anyone to return the Flarum forum as the data is simply gone. We would have to start the Flarum forum over again. The only thing we can restore to pre-Seth going rogue is the ProBoards forum. I understand your concerns about being locked in to ProBoards, but we were able to move all of the policies over and no one seemed to mind the transition. After all, this forum was still left open so we could reference old threads if needed. I think we should NOT move from ProBoards as history is going to repeat itself again. No one could have thought that Seth would have gone rogue when we switched. Seth assured us everything was taken care of legally, everything was secure (it wasn't), and that backups would be made and in case of any corruption we could restore something. Look at how poorly that aged. I don't believe we had any backups from Flarum, and even if we did, Seth giving us them would be completely up to him. |

You clearly didn't read my post. We have NO authority to move the forums from Flarum... It's not hard to get them stood up and was something I'd planned to do last night anyway. If we're going to start changing things without an owner, then it's turning into the wild west because there are plenty of things I think should be changed, so why shouldn't I change them? There's no owner to stop me and it's on my server, so that's fair right? It's a slippery slope and undermines the decisions made by the previous owners and the future owners of the server. We should restore what we had before Seth went AWOL or as close to that, and that's what I've said I will support, anything different to that mandate I feel is unacceptable and not something I could personally support until we have an owner in place. This isn't the first time I've been in this position of trying to facilitate a new owner coming in, and we are going to fuck ourselves over if we start making decisions without the authority to do so. These decisions aren't just coming from no where. The fires in California have effected Proboards. Given that this is the case, I think it would be appropriate to find someone to host a forum (preferably Wild) to initiate the ownership policy. The amount of time we will have to wait for them to restore our forum is unknown due to the fire. Alternatively, we could continue to wait or do it on this blank forum. |

It needs the tags / boards / whatever they're called setting up along with the rank and a theme being installed, but the actual base install is now up and running so it shouldn't be hard to use if people are that way inclined and we then let Proboard do their thing here, and the new owner can decide what the hell they want to do on this topic. The options there, it's hosted as part of the core ATLAS infrastructure so it's not going anywhere any time soon and is subject to the standard support arrangements we've got as a company. And can be handed over to the new owner if / when needed. |
