This topic has been discussed multiple times. Summary: Admins accept the risk of DDOS and DOX Use a VPN if you don't want your IP Leaked You really just dont care about ops privacy? Not everyone can afford a vpn some vpns are free and honestly sometimes they're better if it isn't for big purposes, but for this it's fine I would rather not be ddosed a shit ton or someone finding otu where I live. Lol. So you're scared of the easiest attack on the internet? Literally, all you need for a ddos is a botnet (it can be small too) and a piece of public information. Grow up if you're that scared of being ddosed. As for someone finding out where you live... It's pretty slim, as stated above. Most DOXers figure out where people live because they're stupid enough to basically tell them by putting so much information online Unless you have a shit router you're safe from ddos attacks anyway. Bullshit. Good routers can also be DDoSed, it may require more bots to do it but it's still easier than you might think. ONT: Neutral

Object, IPs are extremely easy to get, make a minecraft server and personally invite someone to it, boom you have their ip with little to no work.

Why make it so easy for them? What is even the point of showing the IP publiclly?

ONT: Neutral Mostly saying what I said from what I've seen in my router's own WAN interface. Over the last week alone I've seen about 20 ddos attempts discarded to the WAN interface on my router, most originating from china, russia or even spain.

I object I don't think It's needed. If someone DOSes you the "simple" solution Is to either block them from the router (If you can get hold of the IP with something like Wireshark). If someone DDOSes you then call your ISP and let they handle It. Otherwise, there is actually free VPNs to use such as Tunnelbear. Tunnelbear gives you 500MB free every month (that Is roughly 30 hours of TF). Then If you tweet about them (message will be like "Tunnelbear, get 500mb free blah blah...") you can get +1GB (roughly 60 more hours of playtime). Also tracking someone using their IP Is not accurate. When I track my IP It says that I live in Skellefteå, which Is not totally wrong but I live about 30km outside of Skellefteå... If you don't get In trouble with local authorities then your pretty safe location wise. I'm maybe not the most qualified to talk about DDOS and DOS but I think I have a basic understanding of It.

All I see is people objecting because it’s not needed or it’s a waste of time, first of all, what even is the reason to show ips in public? There’s clearly no purpose. Second, it’s not a waste of time, to me trying to avoid doing this is pure laziness. I don’t see any posts that are in favor of showing the ip in public, all I see is people not wanting to remove it and not providing any reason why to show it in the first place Removing it: Clears up confusion, less suggestions and provides the op with comfort, even if it doesn’t make a difference, still makes them comfortable Keeping it: Pretty much the opposite of what I said above, there would be confusion, more suggestions of the same thing and ops feeling uncomfortable What’s so hard about removing it from a message? What cons would there be?

Agree with Premintex here. People who say that it's waste of devs time, they are wrong for two reasons: 1. It's just a simple code, probably won't take more than 2 - 3 lines. 2. As premintex said, it will prevent confusion and I believe it will prevent drama.
People who say get VPN: VPN's cost money and free ones are untrust worthy and rubbish, and why should I be paying for VPN when a simple TFM edit could get my worries sorted for free.
Ips easy to get: Yes they are, but not everyone knows how to get them, also why should we make it easier for those people?

May as well hide usernames from OPs too, you could look them up and find their Facebook account or something
