I've noticed that a ton of people on these forums have ip loggers in their signatures. Now some of them are okay and they don't log, but a lot of them actually log information that may be considered sensitive or privacy breaching. For example, I notice this a lot: iplogger.org/As you can see, while it looks like a harmless troll IP image, it is actually meant to log IP addresses, so when you go on a thread with someone with one of these in their signature, your IP, browser, etc are being logged to that person. I think this should be banned (the ones that don't log are fine). It's unethical. Here's some proof on their website itself: You can place a simple counter on your website. The feature of this counter is that you will have access to all IP-addresses of all visitors. You will also get information about visitors' country, city, date and time of visiting, their browser and operating system. You will be able to access a full statistics with your ID or in your account on iplogger.org. - iplogger.org/main/other/

I believe someone has suggested this already, but it is impossible to tell whose IP is whose since it doesn't really show. So not exactly. It would be like taking a thousand people, their names, addresses, and IPs, scrambling them, and sending them to this person.

It's a matter of ethics, you shouldn't be logging people's browser and IP information. It's wrong and sometimes you can tell who it is by their IP information.

Unless your mindlessly exposing were you live, I don't believe it matters. Plus admins have /seen if they want an IP. And half the time, its a few counties off from were you are.

I've modified or added a rule to both the server conduct policy and forum posting guidelines to cover this - thanks for the suggestion. It should be noted though that IP information itself is hardly private but I think it's apparent when somebody might be attempting to surreptitiously collect it. Also, the rule I added makes it just one example in terms of attempting to collect personal info which could be used to DOX or DDOS. If you know of specific forum posts that are now violating this updated policy, please report them.

while i've made the change but it seems there's some open questions about what kind of logger would be allowed. In my mind, if you want something to record the number of times your sig is viewed, that's fine but something that's recording all the IPs for you to view, I think that's a problem. I see no good reason for people to be recording IPs. Is there a counter that doesn't pass IP info along with it??

Yeah there are plenty but it looks like some people accidentally used an IP logger image instead and should instead use one that does not log whatsoever

I also see some people (some admins now) have this is their sig
"I now know your IP! (insert ip) (insert ping) (insert county) (insert country)"

It might scare some OPs.... and encouraging them to not use the forum Vouch for the them not being allowed.
