I also see some people (some admins now) have this is their sig "I now know your IP! (insert ip) (insert ping) (insert county) (insert country)" I could be wrong but I believe in that case, it's just showing the reader their own IP but it's not passing it back to the person that posted it. In some cases, maybe. But like sor said, like ops could be scared crapless. Also, some even say "I now know where you live!!!"

There is nothing unethical about it. IP's are PUBLIC Information, without them, you couldnt use the internet, that is their purpose. So "IP logging" is again, not unethical, or of any real issue. These threads need to stop about people going on about how IP's should be protected, you're talking a load of utter rubbish...

^^ you're entirely correct in sense that we don't offer IP privacy for the reasons but if somebody is intentionally and unnecessarily the collecting the IPs, that's a legitimate issue. The rule I posted it is, "Posting URLs to websites that contains viruses, malware, phishing or any link that could be used to secretly and purposely collect personal information which could be used to DOX or DDOS (e.g. hidden IP logger). This also includes URLs that might be placed in a signature block."
hidden IP logger is just one example but the prohibition isn't meant to stop a sig block that reflects your IP. Whether or not somebody is violating the rule (secretly and purposely collect personal information which could be used to DOX or DDOS) is a judgement call.

^ true and if somebody needs that kind of privacy, they can use VPNs but Wild is still correct and the rule in no way protects your IP from being exposed via routine operations including this forum or the server. It only prohibits collection as noted. At this point, we haven't had any actual test case for this rule - when that happens, we'll see how it goes and adjust accordingly. If you observe that the rule is being violated, flag it.
