As the SMP server is dying, as can be seen by this post made by burger : totalfreedom.boards.net/thread/67895/smp-rebirth-idea and by the recent statistic which shows the downfall of new players and the online activity by the old players: totalfreedom.boards.net/thread/67865/weekly-server-statistics-august-2020, I was thinking of re-branding the SMP into an OP Prison server. Now, I know that regular SMP players would definitely disagree with me, but I would like to simply convey why a Prison server would increase the quality, popularity and enjoyment on the network. Firstly, the SMP server is a complete failure because SMP has little to no interest anymore. There was huge hype about it at the start but in the end, nothing came out of it. SMP is not as popular anymore. We need to start focusing on areas where players will be attracted to, ergo, the Prison server. A Prison server can have many adjustments and have a variety of plugins that stand out from other prison servers. Prison is a very common way to attract voters and donators. This is because you are rewarded with money, tokens, in-game perks and others, however, the SMP server does not do this and a player does not gain anything special which would help improve their gameplay of the server. This would be an amazing investment as we are guaranteed to reach more popularity (because the server is not brand new and we already have a player base, we are guaranteed to have some kind of player base on the Prison server aswell). Not to mention, OP Prison servers are so much more fun to experience than a simple SMP server which is untouched and you can easily make in a plain LAN world. OP Prison has been around for a long time and it is still an amazing server to play on as there are new features updated constantly and each server stands out from the others. I will be constantly coming back to this thread and re-editing it to add in bits and take some out but this is just the general idea and I hope it can be considered. Thank you. |

I actually wouldn't mind this as I do find prison servers, especially OP Prison servers quite fun and enjoyable. (And it carries on the OP aspect of TF), even have a brand name, Total Freedoms Free OP and Total Freedoms OP Prison.

Can we take a little more thought into rebranding the TF server than a simple thread with one suggestion? How about we brainstorm ideas on a single thread and after that get to decide on which would be most fit for TF as a sister-server?
This is not to say that the idea is shit, but I would love some more ideas to be thrown out there before we make a final verdict.

Object. I don't believe this solves the activity problem that this branch SMP server experiences. I think that if we were to instate OP Prison, it would experience the same hype to begin with, and slowly fizzle out as the gamemode itself isn't unique and nothing in particular about TF's name being attached to it would make it preferable over any other OP Prison server. At least with SMP, I could see some attempts at bringing uniqueness and novelty to match the main TF Free OP. If there was to be any kind of shift from the SMP to another gamemode, the admins and community should brainstorm for a similarly unique concept (like Free OP), rather than spinning the roulette wheel of gamemodes and hoping for a jackpot. To add a subjective reason to my objection, I think (and know many others agree) that Prison as a concept is extremely unfulfilling/fruitless to play. The core concept of the gamemode revolves around grinding. While I enjoy grinding in games where it is necessary, like RPGs, I think the idea of menially gathering ores in a mine for no reason other than to get more, better ores is boring.

But how many survival servers do you see with several active players online continuously every day? There are rarely none. We also can't see if players are going to enjoy the server until we actually release it and make the community think if it is good or not. Also, as CurtainPoles mentioned, the brand name would branch out perfectly and fit in perfectly. TotalFreedom Free OP and OP Prison. The juxtaposition between these two also adds some comedic effect which is guaranteed to reel new players in. Not to mention the amount of support OP Prisons get. They get an insane amount of donations and votes for rewards like money, tokens and other things. This will help not only the player base, but this will help improve the Free OP experience as well as the OP Prison experience. As for the grinding in games like RPGs, it is basically the same thing but it's a different game. |

Yes but as you can see, the thread has most of the community disagreeing with the point you conveyed. People can have Anarchy servers on their own Singleplayer World, however, they can not have a Prison server on their Singleplayer world. If SMP is dying I don't see how an anarchy server would do better because there is even less things to do except dupe and kill a few random people whereas SMP has a variety of things and yet the server is gaining less and less new players and active players as can be seen in the weekly statistics. |

The majority of people were objecting on the basis the "new" SMP would flourish which, as was extremely clear at the time wouldn't happen, has not happened. |
