As you may know I got a new laptop for christmas it has an intel i5 processor and I look at the framerate and it is 60 I open it in full screen and it drops right down to 30 Wtf? I tried turning down random settings but it just made it look like my old shitty netbook.

I had the exact same problem before. Does your computer have two graphics cards? For me it turned out that minecraft wanted to use the one for desktop graphics rather than gaming.

I think it does, it has an intel HD graphics and nvidia gt 740m so that might be the problem that intel hd graphics might be overheating

That's exactly the same as me. I have and intel HD and a nvidia 540M! It's not that the intel HD is overheating, it's just not powerful enough to run minecraft. How to change it to use NVIDIA instead: 1) Right click your desktop and click NVIDIA Control Panel 2) Go to "Manage 3D Settings" 3) go to the "Program settings" tab 4) Click 'Add' and navigate to your java bin folder (For me it's: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin, but I'm sure it'll be different for you) 5) Finally find 'javaw.exe' and press open. 6) Change preferred processor to NVIDIA rather than integrated graphics 7) Save changes, restart minecraft and voila! 100+ FPS

He means allocating more RAM to minecraft (So that Minecraft can perform processes and calculations faster, thereby increasing the FPS).
You can do it by: 1) opening the new minecraft launcher, 2) editing the profile you use, 3) enable the JVM Arguments at the bottom, 4) And changing the JVM arguments to something like "-Xmx2G -Xms2G" which gives 2 GB of ram instead of the default 1. (You can change this number, but don't allocate more RAM than you have available)

My default is 512 megabytes (half a gigabyte). That's probably because I only have 4 gigs of ram.

intel i5 processors aren't that good for minecraft.
Try looking for quadcore or dualcore processors. I have an intel core pret about proccessor and I only get about 60 - 80 fps.
