ok so hi this is really a two part thread:
so 1. so basically i actually got the fiber to the second house working. basically here's the setup
switch -> sfp to LC fiber adapter -> actual fiber cable underground -> fiber comes out on other side -> fiber to ethernet adapter
basically, i can plug my computer into the ethernet port on the fiber to ethernet, and it works! however, when i plug in the UAP-AC-Lite (with a PoE injector of course), it also works. I can see it in the UniFI dashboard and can make changes to it. no communication errors. however, the AP doesn't want to assign IP addresses. i'm using the exact same wifi networks that work in house #1. and i doubt its a config error because it works at house #1. i can get an IP and wifi works. it seems to be this one AP in particular, even though it has the exact same configuration as the other ones.
so basically, this rules out there being an incompatibility with the adapters / SFP and the fiber cable not working properly. any ideas on this??
and the second one which is kind of unrelated is the random outages i have. basically, i run a cable from the ethernet port in the wall that the ISP installed to a USG to the switch to the AP's blah blah blah. and it works mostly. however, there are sometimes random outages for 20-30 minutes. and i'm not talking about the ISP load uptime, actual outages where the USG can't connect to the internet.
i try plugging my computer directly into the ethernet port in the wall, and it's still broken. it doesn't assign me an IP. and i know it works because i can get an IP from the thing in the wall whenever i want on my computer (although of course i keep the USG plugged in obviously)
the only way to get it back online, aside from waiting, is to call the ISP and have them reset it. and these resets work too. no reboot of any network equipment at all. it simply just starts working again with a push of a button from the ISP. i'm really clueless on what it could be. especially since it's very random and takes the entire network offline.
full review of unifi coming soon (spoiler: it SUCKS)
i'm so sorry but i have to tag StevenNL2000
