i want to buy a VR headset to play games such as beatsaber and PC only games like boneworks or half life: alyx however my prebuilt pc isn't the best (8 gb of ram and 4 cores apparently is fine however i have a 750 TI) and I have a ~£550 budget. I was previously considering the quest but since i'll be playing PC games I was also thinking the Rift S.
the issue is on how I could run VR games if at all on the Rift S and the inability to properly play PC games on the quest.
what should i do?

i have an rx 580 and i’ve been using the rift s since it launched, and i used the rift cv1 for about half a year with a gtx 960 (which is below the recommended). i’ve been able to run every game i’ve ever tried, although specifically in blade and sorcery i have to turn the scaling down. it’s not unplayable at max settings, but it’s just a little too jittery for me. also, there’s a cable that lets you connect the quest to your pc and i think you can play pc exclusives, but i’m not 100% sure on that

i'm considering getting an rx 580 to upgrade my prebuilt PC and getting a rift S rx 580 is fine, but Rift S has an audio problem. No external tracking needed, but the built-in audio sucks and it's hard to get headphones around your ears because of the hard plastic halo strap around the entire head.

Also, we're talking about HTC and there recent headsets have been a bust. Also HTC support is terrible.

I have an Oculus Quest, and it works really really well. Oculus Link may be in beta, but with the right cable (I got one made specifically for Link usage) the experience is really good. Half Life Alyx works quite well with Link.
Vivecraft works well with the Quest too.

I highly reccomend an oculus quest. You can use oculus link to play PC games via a link cable. You are in the same position as me, I have a 1050ti, it's not VR ready but at least with the quest you get the best of both worlds.

I'd recommend a Quest even for everyone that doesn't want to shell out $700 for a half-baked product (*cough* HTC) or $1k for the best commercially available experience possible (Index) and especially for mid-grade PC owners that don't want to upgrade yet because they're guaranteed a good experience with the quest, but Link can enhance it if they ever want to upgrade.
