So, on the SMP for some reason, when someone claims the perimeter of land, the entire area of said perimeter shows up claimed. See what I mean here: smp.totalfreedom.me:1694/Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm running FactionsUUID v1.6.9.5-U0.5.15-b233

To clarify, they don't actually own any of the land inside the perimeter but it shows up as if they do on the dynmap.
Irix was saying this was due to how you can deny people entry to the whole area so it highlights it, I don't know how true that is though

If you ban somebody from your faction's territory it is then possible to effectively prevent them from crossing the area. You could also argue that this behavior mimics how actual occupation works with colonized territories or war zones.

You could also argue that this behavior mimics how actual occupation works with colonized territories or war zones. we have random teleportation which could potentially let them inside the area And you could dig really deep holes or teleport to another person inside or get an alternate account or wait until the faction leader leaves. It's still part of the plugin's integration with factions.
