To be entirely honest, if your primary concern is the camera -- purchase a DSLR or mirrorless camera.

Get an iPhone if you want something that just works/privacy, and a Oneplus if you want anything android. One plus devices can be rooted and custom ROMd, which means you can make them function exactly how you want. To add on to this, if you want to root and do custom ROMs, avoid Samsung. Google phones can also generally be software modded quite easily. Unrelated, but I bought a pixel 2 from Verizon a few years ago. It is paid in full, and I own the device, but Verizon refuses to unlock the boot loader for any of their phones. I can’t root it or do many other things because of this now. I think it should be flat out illegal to do this, or that Google should at least step in and be like “yo, u want google play services on your devices, u silly oem ? unlock ur boot loaders then“. My personal opinion.

My personal opinion. Can confirm. If you buy a Pixel from Verizon, the bootloader is locked. You should buy it directly from Google. I personally don't recommend the Pixel lineup after daily driving my Pixel, though
