Hello all,
I'm looking to boost some of my teaching and people-oriented skills with hands-on experience. I wanted to offer up free Python lessons for anyone who is interested. For those who are in-the-know, there are many reasons why learning Python is a valuable, basic skill for anyone aspiring to study a STEM subject.
In terms of personal experience, I've been coding Python for about two years. I run the LiBot project and I have been tutoring some of the CS majors at my school. I minor in CS and am knowledgeable in Python, C, and Java.
I will most likely be using my old teacher's free online "textbook" to help guide the course along.
The benefit of learning from me is that I don't grade or assign numerical value to your work. I'll provide you with supportive feedback and give you control over how you solve any problem I throw your way. Think of this more like tutoring.
If you decide to learn from me, a few things will be required:
- A Discord account.
- A working microphone.
- A GMail/Google Docs.
- An SSH program such as Putty.
- Spyder (optionally).
- GitHub (optionally).
Some things I will cover:
- Programming etiquette.
- Data types.
- The differences between programming languages/terminology.
- Basics of programming architecture.
- Special emphasis on micro-services.
- Mathematical operations.
- String manipulation.
- Functions.
- Classes.
- How Python handles files and sees paths.
- YAML parsing.
- Common modules.
- Basic encryption.
- Basic MySQL x Python.
- Discord bots!
If this goes well, I will most likely start a mini-course on how to use Jupyter.
If you are interested, please DM me on Discord and explain why you are interested in learning.
