I'm not sure if this is a problem with Amazon phones, but it's a problem with Kindle (Fire) tablets. I've had to factory reset my tablet *twice* because of it.
When you first get an Amazon Kindle, it's common to say "hey, I should download Google Play services on this!". This lets you basically have a $60 Android tablet, which is great, but not every Google Play app works perfectly on Amazon products.
The first time I had to factory reset my Fire tablet, I wasn't sure what caused it to be so damned laggy. Fire Emblem Heroes would freeze every few seconds, Discord would have a seizure and click on random things, and I would type in words that looked like thithithithithithithis.
The second time I had to factory reset it (which was a couple minutes ago), I knew it was because of Gboard. I installed it because I have it on my phone. As soon as I set it up, I got the same problems I did before I factory reset it the first time. My tablet worked completely fine before that. Sad!
If any of you have an Amazon product (or are planning to get one), do not download Gboard. Don't go through the same hell I went through.

rather install SwiftKey keyboard than gboard so yknow.. could've tried that first without destroying your tablet
