In case one's internet connection isn't the greatest or is getting throttled by their ISP, there should be a forum theme that is optimized for low bandwidth consumption and slow internet connections, only loading what is necessary to make the forum usable. It should be called "Barebones (For slower connections)" and should also accessible for everyone registered to the forum.

Done! You can find it as "Plain theme (for slow connections)". It's based on ProBoards' default theme, which is already pretty plain, but I additionally removed avatars and signatures except on the profile page. Note that a lot of the images that are still there are only loaded once and then used multiple times, so it's not as slow as you would think. I'll close this thread in a few days if no problems are reported. |

I've modified it now to artificially hide the avatar, but there is no guarantee that the browser won't load the image in the background. |
