Hello all. This is the second time it's crashed today, but a lot of crashes have happened in the past with the exact same error. TL;DR, a hard hang. No blue screen, just freezes. This is what I've pieced together so far and the attempts I did to try and solve it. Looking through Event Manager, here's what I've noticed. - This error pops up. Every. Damn. Time. Every time the computer crashes. Therefore, it has to be related. Googling this sys file reveals that it's an eXtensible Host Controller. Granted, it's by "VIA Labs", but considering the similarities between this and my current Host Controller, I couldn't pass it off as a coincidence. Now, unfortunately, I'm on Windows 10, meaning I can't simply re-install the drivers from Intel, Gigabyte (my mobo manufacturer) or any other source, as the drivers are not only designed for use on Windows 7 and below, and disabling the drivers and restarting (seeing as I can't use my keyboard and mouse, because, well, it's the usb controller) doesn't seem to work. Therefore I'm asking here. I'll try updating my Windows 10 (assuming it doesn't make it worse), but if this still doesn't work, I'll respond back. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Open a command prompt as administrator then put sfc /scannow
That will tell Windows to scan system files for problems and attempt to correct them. Failing that, attempt to update the driver using the Windows Device Manager.
Also, is this a clean install of Windows 10 or an upgrade install?

Do you have a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse (the ones without a receiver) you can use while the USB controller is disabled?

Do you have a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse (the ones without a receiver) you can use while the USB controller is disabled? Doubt that matters. Most PCs have both USB 3 and USB 2 ports. Disabling the USB 3 controller will not affect the USB 2 ports on the system.

Bluetooth is disabled at the moment however. Failing that, attempt to update the driver using the Windows Device Manager. I've tried that, it just says it's already the latest driver. Open a command prompt as administrator then put sfc /scannow I'll try that after updating. Cheers for the quick replies, will get back to you shortly.

Does the controller work with other devices? A USB 3.0 host controller basically controls the USB 3.0 ports, meaning if the driver is disabled, none of the 3.0 ports work. It's not a game controller as it would make you think.

Open a command prompt as administrator then put sfc /scannow An update to this, Windows has said there was nothing wrong with it. However, after updating, I have yet to receive a crash. I'll update the thread if it occurs.
