It's funny, Javascript was created so that Java could keep being used for websites. Instead JS ended up replacing Java for websites.

I'll be honest, this sounds like typical Oracle and really does not surprise me. Yep, and I hope they become irrelevant in the future. Oracle is a company that is really no longer needed. Java could survive fine without them given the OpenJDK project. As for their OS... well who even uses Solaris anyways? Even its target market is dominated by Linux and BSD variants.

Java could survive fine without them given the OpenJDK project. As for their OS... well who even uses Solaris anyways? Even its target market is dominated by Linux and BSD variants. Oracle is still a big name in databases. Their enterprise software is horrible to work with from what I've heard, but they do own MySQL.

Their enterprise software is horrible to work with from what I've heard, but they do own MySQL. The NoSQL movement is probably the biggest it has ever been right now, and even for those who use SQL, MySQL itself is getting more and more unpopular.
