I'm making this fairly straight-forward suggestion to address the issue of the Deep Discussion board being used for essentially only politics' current news. In my eyes, deep discussion should be things that may be debated in multiple senses without becoming a news board. For example, something like world hunger, or other GLOBAL issues. The suggestion in question, however, would be a board devoted to recent events, this would include, for example, the choices made by the president, or even things like crisis events. So my proposal is a new board or sub-board for current events such as these.

If this is done, it should be a sub board of deep discussion IMO.

I agree with this but only if a sub board of Deep Discussion. Imo I liked the deep discussion better years ago when it was actually about religion, global topics, etc. It was also great when friko would post recent event megathreads, it would be better if politics became its own sub board of deep discussion.

I like this a lot. Politics/current events deserves its own dedicated board outside of Deep Discussion. It's grown too big to keep as a subboard.

No because it should retain Deep Discussion's regulation and charter, otherwise it'll be insane and just turn into a safe space because this is a minecraft forum. If we can't make it a subboard then we should make deep discussion itself a subboard. EDIT: If you want evidence of this go back to Deep Discussion when it was created, the very first threads on the last page of the board. Every thread would get locked because people would get triggered.

What's more important to me is being able to see the most recent thread for both boards. I want to be able to see the latest Deep Discussion AND Current Events threads at the same time on the home-screen. Without this, it's likely I'll miss a Deep Discussion thread (because politics is more popular) I would have otherwise commented on.

Deep Discussion encompasses a wide variety of topics, there's no reason for a separate board when there isn't much posts about specific topics and a lot about some of the other. If a new board was made, then Deep Discussion would simply have little activity at all, while the recent events board would have the majority of the activity. Maybe if there was more variety of topics and this was actually a problem, but people posting recent events doesn't stop you from posting a topic on religion, cancer research or how large parts of Africa have jumped straight to solar electricity.
Tldr; I don't think it's needed, and for the record I do post some "breaking news" events in general discussion, but they usually end up moved to deep discussion anyways.

If this is done, it should be a sub board of deep discussion IMO. I agree with this, as well we should start enforcing the rule of ACTUALLY POSTING SOMETHING WITH DEEP DISCUSSION and not just a link to a news story and "Wow I'm so surprised this would happen" It gets annoying, so I believe we should start doing that too. But, yea, I'd say this is a good idea for a subboard.

I agree with not posting every story you see on the front of nytimes but some stories are important and affects millions if not billions of people's lives.

I'm saying do what you do, comment on the story, don't just post a link to a story.

thanks for the suggestion but we'll keep things as is for that board. We aren't a politics, religion, hard news forum but such things can be discussed in that section provided it doesn't overshadow the main utility of the forum. If you want to create a secondary and unofficial forum to have specific political and religious boards, have at it.
