It keeps telling me to use "play.totalfreedom.me" which is exactly what I am using.

If you're using a Forge version, it's very picky on that.
Try running it in Vanilla.

It's a problem on the server. Forge 1.8 keeps doing that problem, its a bug that markbyron has to fix. So at the moment, forge isn't allowed on the server.
