It did this with two routers. I have one tab open, and you can guess which one it is... So, do you have any advice, or do I need to take this ipad to the school's tech supervisor? (Updating it is not an option, as it removes my schools preinstalled apps.)

No he isn't. Safari is a application, not a search engine. Safari's search engines are Google, Yahoo, Bing, and DuckDuckGo. To switch your search engine, simply go to Settings, and scroll down until you find Safari. After you find the Safari button, click it. It should come up with a search engine tab.

try clearing history and website data. On the desktop, select the Safari menu and 'clear history and website data', than 'all history'. On an iPad, goto the Settings app, select Safari, and at the bottom of al the options, select 'Clear History and Website Data'

iPad 2 Year: 2011 Model: A1395* Capacity: 16, 32, 64 GB iPad 2 that explains it, I used to have an iPad 3 and gave it away last year as it was getting very slow, I currently have the iPad Mini (1) It's getting pretty slow. I think that anything after iPad 4 works just fine. iPad 4 iPad Air iPad Air 2 iPad Mini 2 (Retina) iPad Mini 3
