When you save a build with world edit (we're assuming you already know how), I would recommend you save it twice with different names or use a very uncommon name that won't likely be used by somebody else. For example, if you save with the name 'boat', you'll probably end up losing it when somebody else names their build the same thing.
Also, if you spent days making a complex build and you really want to ensure it gets saved or you want to use it on another server, you can PM me with the name and I'll send you the schematic. However, to ensure I'm not overwhelmed with requests, you can only make one request per month for up to 5 builds - so best to save your build with a very uncommon name and/or save it with different names in case one gets overwritten.
Likewise, if you made a build somewhere else and have the schematic, you can request that I upload it but again, once per month.
