This is something that should be addressed. There should be a high standard for transparency in regards to changes on the server and encouraging community voting as much as possible. This thread is a good example of a major change that affects the server being discussed and voted on by the general public (Rank restructure and removal of telnet). The way nearly every suggestion should be carried out. Below is how it shouldn't be: A lack of community discussion or transparency about a change.
A prime example of a lack of transparency/community involvement: The new forums. I was discussing this with Video the matter and apparently he was told to keep hush about it??? (see image attached). Also according to that image, the change has been kept secret from the general public. Why? I don't know. Why keep such a major change secret from the public and then it gets hinted in a thread worded in a way that belongs in spam and drama. This is not only not right to the community as a whole, but also not responsible on the Executive's part, especially since they have final say. The Executives should be transparent in their actions and should avoid keeping secrets about drastic server changes so the community can be aware of these new changes or policies can be aware of them sooner (especially in the case of a new forums, rules, server, etc.)
Here's why we should have a community vote on all major changes as well:
Because this is something I decided I'm doing regardless of community vote.
Because the previous concerns in the thread don't bother me. Sometimes as a community leader you have to go against public interest. I can't please everyone, but lots of people want this.
I'm not doing back and forth arguing on this. So this is all I'm going to say for now. This is something I am going to do, and not everyone is going to like it. You cannot please everyone.
Here's what I have to ask in regards to that matter: How do you know if people want this change? There's no vote so how can you be so sure? How do we know what people want if they can't voice their opinion? This is a prime example of why we need voting on such changes instead of going off on your high horse and assuming "oh i'm doing this because I think a lot of people want this and that because I decided I want it." Preventing voting silences people who may disagree with something by preventing debate which isn't a good way to make decisions because of the fact that everyone has become a "rubber stamp" and the assumption is made that "most of the server wants it."
The community should be a part of the verdict for new suggestions because the community can decide on any adjustments/changes or state reasons why they disapprove it especially since these changes will affect the entire server as a whole. In the end, decisions should be based on what the community as a whole wants because they're the people who use the server on a daily basis and should have a say in what goes on in changes that affect their experiences here. For any reason the community shouldn't be involved don't assume that the community wants it without their will when it may clearly be not what they want. Executives should have the final say and be able veto a vote provided its a major risk to server functionality, security, etc or is just plain stupid, but if its something that affects a major facet of the server, the players and community should have a right to vote on a suggestion and voice their opinions.
Feel free to discuss any opposing opinions in a civil manner.
Whoopie.

I like how there wasn't even a community vote about this and a limited amount of communication in regards to a forum change. What happened with transparency in regards to a change as major as this?
