Most government sectors can probably be defunded and be just fine
I have absolutely no proof to back this claim, and im not sure if its correct either. I just know they spend a shit ton of money

I want to know, why do we spend so much on giving police equipment that's designed for MILITARY use, but doctors have to get on their hands and knees and beg for a couple of masks and a ventilator?

I think if they are no longer serving the public in the way in which the public feel appropriate, it's a sensible evolution. If you can't prove you should be funded, you should not be funded. It's the harsh reality of everything in the public sector.
I'm not saying it's a good idea, but maybe the thread of it will force some cultural changes.

Myself as a non-amercian, I find it very difficult to understand why is the US police are heavily militarized and ready to use it on those whom they should be protecting & serving.
Such issues like that doesn't even happen where I'm from, basically, police are just civilians with more privileges that could be abused and of course it's not just abuse of privilege but it could end up talking an innocent human beings life.
