We're not going to become a cracked server anytime soon due to our link to the SMP server, meaning we're going to stay in onlinemode. Because we're going to be in onlinemode, I believe we should update the permanent ban system, which would implement UUID-based permanent bans (so that people can't bypass their bans by just changing their username and IP address) and include reasons for each ban.
What do you think?

Since when are we staying in onlinemode? Seth already agreed to cracked and there is a suggestion on file with heavy support to switch to a more viable way of using offline mode.

There was a counter suggestion which won. On top of this, the original suggestion was made on the basis that TotalFreedom was unbungeeing with SMP. That is no longer the case

There was an active vote for a few days and it was closed by Seth when he made the decision to try out cracked mode again for us to see the results, and coincidentally the vote was frozen when sticking with online mode won by 1 or 2 votes. I don't consider that a "win" by any means if you have half the community disagreeing... especially when it's something this fundamental. I don't think that we should take away such a major feature just to bungee with an associated server, especially since it is absolutely possible to bungee without removing cracked mode.

The poll was locked automatically. Seth decided he would try it out but later decided it would be better in the long run to retain online-mode status. If you don't call having the majority vote for it a "win" then your definition of "win" is fundamentally skewed. SMP is not, for the last time, an associated server. It's named after TotalFreedom (see characters 1-12 in the name) and is owned by Seth and myself. It is absolutely possible to bungee without removing cracked mode, however doing so will force SMP to go cracked, which would lead to even more mayhem than TotalFreedom going cracked

People have done it for 10 years and on plenty of servers it's worked well. You say majority vote as if it wasn't flipping between cracked and premium "winning" every day, I don't consider half of the community being split a "win", and that kind of ignores the point of there currently being an on file suggestion to implement cracked mode which has 3/4 support which is a hell of a lot more of a "win" than 1/2.

I don't see why there's an issue with a survival multiplayer server being cracked? People have done it for 10 years and on plenty of servers it's worked well. a) Passwords plugin. People won't use their real password as it's obtainable by anyone who checks logs. They'll use passwords of no meaning to them and they'll forget the login easily. b) People who register as a user before the real user can join the server. c) Easy ban bypassers You say majority vote as if it wasn't flipping between cracked and premium "winning" every day Wilee regardless of circumstances, when the poll ended, the premium option won. You wouldn't be complaining about this if the circumstances were switched. I guarantee if Offline-Mode won by 1 point you would not be complaining, at all.

I Vouch. A UUID based permban system would prevent issues of players changing their name and being able to bypass a ban using a VPN. Reasons are also useful for appealing, especially when a player states "they don't know why they were banned."

I would question generally (Esp if we move to onlinemode=false) if we even need usernames. I think IP Perm banning might make the most sense generally, we always end up with a "Proxy_user_IP_ban_only" type user in the YAML anyway...

Vouch. I remember when banning Panther's alt, he changed the name of it, rejoined, and crashed it. And permbanned people can accidentally or intentionally join the game if they had changed their username
