i propose we do a few QoL changes to the discord server, such as: - changing the executives color to be what the current discord admin role color is, i never saw a reason for executives to be yellow, as they are always represented in a lighter shade of red anywhere else. on top of this, i think that maybe the donator role could be yellow or something so that it is much clearer that they are not a senior admin, as i have mistaken people with the donator rank as seniors due to the color of the role - remove smp channels other than the smp announcements channel, all of the smp stuff is on its own discord server and thus doesn't need to be in the main one, other than the announcements one so that way people can get to the smp discord, alternatively we could put the smp discord link into the #Important-Information Channel - move bot role lower, i get that the bots need to be higher than the other roles to do stuff like banning but what you could do is have a role that is as high in the list as it is now, but just have that role not be displayed separately and then have a role for the bots that does display separately that is just above the online members, there is no reason for the bots to be that high in the list, and it just makes it harder for people to clearly see who the staff of the server are. - add a #staff-Information channel, that way staff can easily find things like all the links in this thread, the admin policy, the telnet client download/telnet port, the admin vote process, the chain of command, and other things like that - allow executives (not assistants) to post in announcement channels, this can either be done by just giving them permission to join all of them, or adding roles to each of the executives that allow them to post in their respective announcement channels - add server voting links to #Important-Information - integrate ban system into the main tf bot, there is no real reason to have the some dragon bot, especially since a lot of the code for the some dragon bot is either not working, or has no real use - separate executive and assistant executive roles, they can be the same color or whatever, but they shouldn't all be listed as executive, as, that implies that they have more permissions then their normal admin position, which they do not im dumb this already exists - change #no-mic-chat to just #vc-text or something like that, because i think that atm due to people saying stuff like "no mics no rights" (which is the current channel header of the channel btw), it can't be used for what its main purpose is, which is to allow for people in the discord to post images or other things in a chat channel where everyone knows which channel it is in, rather than having people who are doing that in #server-chat or #general-discussion - change #suggestions to #event-suggestions, i have seen so many people get confused over this - make the mentally unstable role be the top 10 users, and not the top 5, there's no real reason for them to have their own text chat/voice chat, if there's only 5 people to use it. - add #staff-reports channel for staff to be able to easily notify developers/forum mods/whoever else, that something has gone wrong or if there's an error with something - animated server icon - why does #mentions exist, i don't understand the point of it, it just shows when someone has deleted a message or edited a message it doesn't even say what was deleted/edited, this is just like a sudo audit log i geuss, but worse, i don't see why all of the staff need to have access to this channel these are only suggestions, but i think that they would be very nice

allow executives (not assistants) to post in announcement channels, this can either be done by just giving them permission to join all of them, or adding roles to each of the executives that allow them to post in their respective announcement channels Why? - integrate ban system into the main tf bot, there is no real reason to have the some dragon bot, especially since a lot of the code for the some dragon bot is either not working, or has no real use tf!ban - add #staff-reports channel for staff to be able to easily notify developers/forum mods/whoever else, that something has gone wrong or if there's an error with something orr dm them?? - change #suggestions to #event-suggestions, i have seen so many people get confused over this literally in the events category. - separate executive and assistant executive roles, they can be the same color or whatever, but they shouldn't all be listed as executive, as, that implies that they have more permissions then their normal admin position, which they do not they are separate ranks on discord - add a #staff-Information channel, that way staff can easily find things like all the links in this thread, the admin policy, the telnet client download/telnet port, the admin vote process, the chain of command, and other things like that why lol - move bot role lower, i get that the bots need to be higher than the other roles to do stuff like banning but what you could do is have a role that is as high in the list as it is now, but just have that role not be displayed separately and then have a role for the bots that does display separately that is just above the online members, there is no reason for the bots to be that high in the list, and it just makes it harder for people to clearly see who the staff of the server are. literally doesn't affect anything at all - remove smp channels other than the smp announcements channel, all of the smp stuff is on its own discord server and thus doesn't need to be in the main one, other than the announcements one so that way people can get to the smp discord, alternatively we could put the smp discord link into the #Important-Information Channel no lmfao the smp server i made was mainly for factions to discuss stuff w/o having to make a group chat

I think a "donator rank" even existing is extremely inappropriate for this community... it's one of the things Mark never budged on and always made it clear that it would never be in the community's values to give people ranks for donating, or allowing donations at all.

Donating to the server supports the owner financially and if there is no intensive or reward to doing do I don't see a valid reason to donate except actually caring about the server. Mark and Seth are very different when it comes to financial status: Mark was a man with a real life job who got a monthly income of god knows how much. Seth is a high school student.

I don’t see the issue with giving a cosmetic colour as thanks for donating; they don’t give any advantage apart from a chat for themselves.

Well supposedly Wize and others have injected hundreds of dollars into "keeping TF alive," so is that really a valid reason?

- separate executive and assistant executive roles, they can be the same color or whatever, but they shouldn't all be listed as executive, as, that implies that they have more permissions then their normal admin position, which they do not they're seperate - change #suggestions to #event-suggestions, i have seen so many people get confused over this it IS under the events category, plus there's a pinned message explaining what the channel is for. i guess this wouldn't hurt though - why does #mentions exist, i don't understand the point of it, it just shows when someone has deleted a message or edited a message it doesn't even say what was deleted/edited, this is just like a sudo audit log i geuss, but worse, i don't see why all of the staff need to have access to this channel iirc this was added a while back because people got annoyed at a deleted ping and didn't know who pinged them, it's still useful IMO

no lmfao the smp server i made was mainly for factions to discuss stuff w/o having to make a group chat all of the smp channels besides smp-announcements are useless, we have the exact same channels on the actual smp discord server so there's no reason to have those channels on tf

- changing the executives color to be what the current discord admin role color is, i never saw a reason for executives to be yellow, as they are always represented in a lighter shade of red anywhere else. on top of this, i think that maybe the donator role could be yellow or something so that it is much clearer that they are not a senior admin, as i have mistaken people with the donator rank as seniors due to the color of the role Was probably a legacy thing, I think I originally picked colours and Executives have never had 'A Colour' They are not generally shown as Red, that's Forum administrators. Executives were historically a separate role. The reason Discord admins were red originally (Assuming I remember right and that far back) was to draw parallels there. - remove smp channels other than the smp announcements channel, all of the smp stuff is on its own discord server and thus doesn't need to be in the main one, other than the announcements one so that way people can get to the smp discord, alternatively we could put the smp discord link into the #Important-Information Channel Why not just merge the discords back together? If SMP is officially TF it feels like it should have a single discord and not many..? - move bot role lower, i get that the bots need to be higher than the other roles to do stuff like banning but what you could do is have a role that is as high in the list as it is now, but just have that role not be displayed separately and then have a role for the bots that does display separately that is just above the online members, there is no reason for the bots to be that high in the list, and it just makes it harder for people to clearly see who the staff of the server are. That might have been a legacy thing, was an in joke for a while and I had it above all the staff team because it really annoyed a few people and it amused me greatly that they got so shitty about it. - add a #staff-Information channel, that way staff can easily find things like all the links in this thread, the admin policy, the telnet client download/telnet port, the admin vote process, the chain of command, and other things like that Is it really needed? Like if you can't use the search or common sense I'm not sure how much use you are as an admin..? - allow executives (not assistants) to post in announcement channels, this can either be done by just giving them permission to join all of them, or adding roles to each of the executives that allow them to post in their respective announcement channels Not sure why? Again I know Discord has changed in it's approach since I ran it, but historically announcements were intentionally separate from server affairs... If that's still the model then I'd argue you should ask a discord mod / admin to post on your behalf if you have a good reason. - add server voting links to #Important-Information Seems sensible, agreed. - integrate ban system into the main tf bot, there is no real reason to have the some dragon bot, especially since a lot of the code for the some dragon bot is either not working, or has no real use Tbf using discords native banning feels like a better answer anyway, you can give reasons and all that, not sure why servers like having a bot to do it for them? - change #no-mic-chat to just #vc-text or something like that, because i think that atm due to people saying stuff like "no mics no rights" (which is the current channel header of the channel btw), it can't be used for what its main purpose is, which is to allow for people in the discord to post images or other things in a chat channel where everyone knows which channel it is in, rather than having people who are doing that in #server-chat or #general-discussion Yeah, that seems sensible. - change #suggestions to #event-suggestions, i have seen so many people get confused over this Also would say that's sensible. - make the mentally unstable role be the top 10 users, and not the top 5, there's no real reason for them to have their own text chat/voice chat, if there's only 5 people to use it. Yeah, I guess you're just picking an arbatary number so where you draw the line is eh. - add #staff-reports channel for staff to be able to easily notify developers/forum mods/whoever else, that something has gone wrong or if there's an error with something What's the expected benefit of this? Sounds like a way to confuse where you should report things. If we've got an official one that'd be awesome. - why does #mentions exist, i don't understand the point of it, it just shows when someone has deleted a message or edited a message it doesn't even say what was deleted/edited, this is just like a sudo audit log i geuss, but worse, i don't see why all of the staff need to have access to this channel Probably to help identify serial trolls. The Discord audit logs don't show when a member deletes their own message, only if they delete someone else's, it's an admin log more than anything else. It's really handy having some sort of user audit log to work out if people are being dicks.

i only just now thought of this but i will add this here:
- add a "Discord Manager", currently right now the only discord admin is the executive admin officer, i think that we need a 2nd discord admin whos job is to do stuff like this, make changes to the discord server, the roles of people, and things like that, basicly, someone to actualy be a discord admin, insted of just someone with admin permissions for no real reason other than that they are the EAO, this new discord admin should be responsible for working with the discord mods and other members of the server to try and make the discord a better place and make changes to it when needed

We don’t give ranks for donating, other than a discord title. Not allowing something like donations just because one person didn’t want to is very backwards way of thinking, it’s not like you’re required to donate. I am willing to donate the large amounts of money you are referring to, and I should be allowed to.

I made a separate discord for factions, it wasn't meant to be an *official* server of sorts. Is there any reason we couldn't sensibly merge them back in? Otherwise tbh we should separate the entire SMP server from TF and everything like that or at the very least move it so it's only associated like any other random server is?
