While I would emphasise that I was inactive while the application systems were overhauled, I would support keeping recommendations.
In the past, I think recommendations also served as an indicator as to whether or not to apply - encouraging qualified applicants to apply for promotion. I don't know if people issue recommendations as often today as they used to but if they do then I definitely think recommendations remain useful.

That is power-posting and should be moderated. At the end of the day, that vote is ignored. Vouch/Object currently is used for the point system we have in place so each one is actually useful and does contribute to the result of the application. Not really, I have a 'Neutral' opinion of all apps. Technically valid, and still useless. Which is my point. Nope, it's power-posting. I'm going to quote Windows, one of our forum mods on this:

I'm going to quote Windows, one of our forum mods on this: It's a legitimate response on the current system... There is no reason I should not be allowed to express that view on all the applications... Either way that is besides my point, the entire current system IMO is shit, we went 'Backwards' in moving to this system compared to where we could have gone when we realized the old system was also crap.

Same here. But Mark created the idea for Telnet and Senior recommendations for a reason, whatever that reason may be. To me, a recommendation is a stronger statement than a vouch on an application. It means that the recommender has duly thought of the applicant in question and genuinely thinks they would be a good candidate for promotion. It’s a motion of confidence and in some cases can be the determining factor in whether or not an application is accepted. So, in my opinion we should keep the recommendation as part of the application process. This, i believe recommendations means a person not only thinks someone can be a good admin, but they are willing to put their name down and stick their neck out in a way. Also i see another advantage in relation to the admin training thread in that a person recommending someone should possibly have the responsibility to train them which i think would be a good way of keeping track of an admins training. This is pretty much how I currently do it. Although i still dont think you need "training" to a competent admin
