Hey all,
This isn't truly my place to talk, as we do have an acting EAO; however, as an executive that works day in and day out to grow our community, and senior admin with inherit leadership expectations, I feel as though it's time to make a point.
First and foremost, I want to acknowledge the fact that there's been a significant decline in administrative behavior. I'm not going to play the name game, as we have all at one point fallen victim to the pitfalls of immaturity. Something that needs to be noted is that yes, we are a Minecraft server, but no, that doesn't give you the excuse to become a nonsense admin. You applied to the position of administrator, knowing fully the the responsibilities you're tasked with. Yes, you can have fun, but "having fun" shouldn't be all you're doing. Moreover, "having fun" shouldn't get in the way of an administrative task at hand (i.e. properly banning an OP). TotalFreedom has been built upon a generation of hardworking, professional, and dedicated staff. I can assure you that TF and all of its entities would've been dead as a door-nail if its staff had acted the way we act today. To my Super Admin's, believe it or not, you guys have really set a great example in terms of how a staff member should act. One would think the more senior staff would be the example setters, but unfortunately, it's really quite the opposite. Super Admin's, I'd like to commend you on your passion, dedication and hard work on this server. Your work has not gone unnoticed. Keep on improving and growing, and as always, feel free to ask a senior staff for help with anything. This leads me onto my next point, Telnet Admin's, what in the f*#k are you guys doing. You received a promotion and were given trust, and in response, you just take a piss on the mutual respect and understanding this team gives you. Look, not all of you are bad, but the bad apples definitely shine through. I'd like for the senior staff to sit down with the Telnet Admin's at one point, and re-align the admin's definitions of what it means to lead as a remote-console administrator. Removing the concept of TCA may be attributed to the overall decline of telnet expectations, nonetheless, I have faith in our ability to make ends meet. Now, onto the Senior Admin's. Some of you guys are amazing administrators, who lead by example. And the other half of you show up once a month, and couldn't give a rats a*% for maturity and professionalism. Again, I'd like to request that the more senior staff sit down with the senior admins and "refresh" what it means to be an effective leader, both in and out of game. As a senior admin, you are expected to lead by example. You hold the highest position this community has to offer, you'd think one would treat it with more respect.
Admin's are ambassadors to this community, and with a now ever-rapidly expanding community, it's time we take time to briefly outline/re-align the expectations we have from our admins.
Please take some time to review and understand these expectations:
- You should NOT be breaking any of the rules outlined in /rules. I don't care how "severe" the rule is you broke, the moral of the story here is... you broke the rule. If you are caught breaking a rule, expect to be harshly sanctioned from here on out. As the Server Liaison, I will not stand for this behavior.
- You should NOT be engaging in charged sociopolitical conversations that divide our community further, rather than unite it. Your job as an admin is to make sure everybody, no matter their race, or ethnicity, is comfortable playing on our server.
- This one isn't necessarily against the rules, but...
You should NOT be using obscenely vulgar language in general chat, especially language that makes players feel uncomfortable and isolated while playing.
- You should NOT be CONSTANTLY banning, kicking, and smiting fellow staff members for "fun". Once in a while is completely fine, but the scale on which we do it constitutes a complete abuse of your powers as an administrator.
- You SHOULD be actively answering players questions, concerns and problems, with grace.
- You SHOULD be actively looking for any and all grief, and taking care of it in an efficient and mature matter.
- You SHOULD be actively looking for rule-breakers and malice's to the community.
- You SHOULD be using admin chat to ask questions and further administrative tasks. Admin chat isn't just for shits and giggles.
- Your external appearance in-game should balance out being "friendly" with being mature, professional, and reasonable.
And lastly,
- You SHOULD have some pride for what you do, after-all, you work for one of the oldest communities on the best selling video-game of all time!
Please note, that it is not too late to correct your behavior, and now is better than ever to start doing so. Blatant disregards to the expectations listed above will be referred to the Executive Admin Officer for proper sanctions.
Feel free to respond to this thread with any and every question/comment/concern you may have!
Warmly,
Wize
