Personally I'd say "Fixing the lag" is a far more beneficial thing to do for the server than to re-invent the timing mechanics, because you'll fix it here, and it'll be broken elsewhere... The lag isn't caused by server-side issues (for the majority of the time), it's caused by player-executed tasks that put a strain on the server. "Fixing it" is very subjective and vague and could lead to a quite literal total lack of freedom Then I'm not sure how much value you're going to have by going down this route anyway, if you can't make reasonable steps to prevent it, re-inventing the time mechanics is certainly not a long term fix...

What's with this idea that the only way to achieve server stability is to disable everything? It's not impossible to upgrade the server infrastructure.

Upgrading server infrastructure won't fix the problem... How won't it? It's a lag issue, it's not unfixable. There are always tons of exploits that will lag/crash the server. I guarantee you, you can't name me a single minecraft server that doesn't lag no matter how good their infrastructure is.

Lag is scalable, you can do simple things to lag a server to death or if the infrastructure is good then it will take a whole lot more power to lag it. The issue is that preventative measures aren't being taken.

The point of the suggestion is to stop innocent players being banned when, inevitably (especially on a server like this), it lags.

While using system time to measure this is far more effective, there are steps that can be taken to reduce lag, it's just that no one is willing to take those steps.

So you think that we should switch to system time? That's my whole point lol. I don't really have much to say about reducing lag, I never said it wasn't possible to reduce it, I just said it wasn't possible to "fix lag".
