I think it's time I get a new keyboard and I love a good debate so do any of you lot have experience with one or both types of keyboard, which is better/which should I get.
Main uses will be gaming and programming (so lots of typing)

Personally i use mechanical with cherry mx red switches and its one of the best I have used imo - the only problem with them is that they are quite noisy

I use cherry MX browns. If you want tactile and quiet I recommend these.

Like others have mentioned mechanical keyboards are very loud, but I find them so so satisfying to type on and prefer them for this.

I recommend buying either an IBM keyboard from the 80s/90s, or one of the Unicomp ones they still manufacture which are similar and are manufactured at the same plant.

IBM Model M and Model F have powerful chassis, I could throw it onto the concrete and it would be in mint condition. Throw a Logitech keyboard onto the concrete and it would split in half and honestly would've been malfunctioning even before you chose to do such a thing.
