I want to build a decent PC for under 400 with these specs: CPU: Intel Core i5-3570 or AMD FX-8370 or better CPU SPEED: Info RAM: 8 GB OS: Windows 10 64-bit VIDEO CARD: Radeon R9 380 or GeForce GTX 960 or better PIXEL SHADER: 5.1 VERTEX SHADER: 5.1 DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 2048 MB I have made this build so far. pcpartpicker.com/list/3wf9FGI don't game much, I actually do a lot of CAD. However, with the new flight simulator coming, I want to play that on this PC. Also, I know I made a thread about the build but I just wanted to continue things here instead. Looks pretty good, but there are a few tips that I would like to give. First off, it might be a good idea to instead get a Seagate Barracuda 2TB for your HDD, since it's only a few dollars more and is twice the storage. Second, be aware that if you are getting a B450 motherboard with a Ryzen 3000 CPU, make sure it has an "AMD RYZEN 3000 DESKTOP READY" badge, or it may not work. If that happens, AMD will loan you a CPU that you can use just to boot up the system and flash the BIOS. Other than that, it's pretty good for a starter system. Once you save up you can always get a discrete GPU or another stick of ram. Plus, remember that there is another generation of Ryzen CPUs coming up if you ever decide to upgrade the CPU.

Going with a Core i5 is a good move, and if you want a bit more power you can get a later generation i5 for not much more money. I'd recommend against getting an AMD FX or that old Radeon because they're older, low quality CPUs which won't handle well especially with CAD, if you get a discrete GPU then you'd be good with a GTX 1060 Ti for the price and performance, any GTX earlier is not worth it when considering both price and performance.

The 3200G would work out well to get started, then once you start saving up you could get an even better chip. Zen 3 will remain on socket AM4 and is supposed to be a lot better than Zen 2, so you will have that option when the time comes.

Ryzen will give me more options for the future though. I've used intel for the last 10 years and it's been a bumpy ride. Want to try something new. I used to be a pro-intel die hard fan too, Polaris.

Just a small update: I can't get a gaming PC anymore but I can get a gaming laptop.
I'm considering the Acer Nitro 5 with i5, GTX 1050, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD and 128GB SSD.
I'm planning to do a new method which I call buy and sell. I'll buy the laptop, save for two years and sell it then buy a better machine for Uni later.
Opinions on the laptop please? I'm so sorry for asking a lot of questions but I'm very bad at this kinda stuff

I once had an acer monitor and within just a few weeks I was seeing some dead pixels and weird spots on the screen. Also, one of my friends had an acer laptop and said that it broke and their customer service was a pain.

However, we've been getting acer laptops through Currys in the UK so we have had Team KnowHow warranty

I've been using it for months now and it hasn't failed me. Although, if you're looking into gaming on a laptop, you're going to need a cooling pad because man let me tell you, this laptop heats up lol
