after many many many cloudy nights and equipment failures, i was finally able to get enough data on something. i decided to go easy on myself and pick the easiest target there is, but i actually still manged to screw it up. it's overexposed, so some of the details are blown out and it looks a bit wonky, because i set up quickly as i've been studying for a stupid apush quiz all afternoon. but there it is, the moon, la luna, whatever you want to call it. anyways about the horsehead nebula: all of my data is trashed. . i overexposed every single frame (i'm seeing a bit of a pattern here..), and got way too much light pollution that i just can't get rid of, no matter how much i try. and if that wasn't bad enough, i'm not going to be able to shoot the horsehead nebula again until next winter, as the earth is starting to turn away from the winter targets, causing the nebula to drift straight into the trees in my yard as soon as it gets dark. kind of a bummer, but that's just all part of the hobby. tag list: @flammableflames VideoWaspterfionn@w1z

It's kinda weird how there's always some sort of issue, but to me I don't see anything wrong with it

ok but deadass what camera do you be using for this? maybe the shutter speed should've been a bit higher (maybe lower the iso too) bc it doesn't look [as] overexposed as you say it is

It's kinda weird how there's always some sort of issue, but to me I don't see anything wrong with it its just a very complicated hobby and there is always 1,000,000 things that can go wrong, plus i talk to a ton of amazing astrophotographers that produce stunning work, and i know that all of my images could be improved if i just did one tiny thing slightly different

Do you upload ur work to r/astrophotography? U should i do sometimes, but i usually don’t because you have to write out the entire process, from acquisition time to equipment to processing steps and software, and i just cba to do that most of the time

A colleague of mine does astrophotography as a hobby. He too uses a cannon EOS. He recently bought a super expensive lens and the photography he's obtained using that combo is stunning. The lens he uses is a Sigma APO 500mm. I'll shoot him a text and get some pics to show you. Nonetheless, nice work!

so i thought i'd just add onto this thread instead of making a new one just because this thread is only a few days old, so here we go: this is my latest shot, and i am very happy with how it turned out. i took 500+ pictures of the moon, only to find out that they were somehow out of focus . but fret not, as i went right back out and got another couple hundred, this time in focusing. i've been playing around with it for a few hours, and i finally came up with something that i liked. this one is very different from all my other shots, i wanted to try something new. btw the reason why the bottom left edge looks weird is because it's not a full moon, it's only 95%
