despite having "java" in the name, javascript and java are quite different. javascript is an interpreter, not a compiler and java is a compiler, not an interpreter and javascript is wrote in text editors/ides and java is wrote in sdks.
java: usually for applications javascript: usually for website creations
then again, i code in javascript and python so i don't know much about java

The similarity between Java and JavaScript is the same as the similarity between car and carpet.

Javascript got its name from Java purely for marketing purposes in the 90s. It is otherwise unrelated to Java.

The similarity between Java and JavaScript is the same as the similarity between car and carpet. Never heard it be put more elegantly than that.
