I feel we should once again, implement the strict english speaking policy. The sheer lack of bilingual admins (especially russian) makes it hard understand and assist these operators. On top of that, they could be saying the most vulgar, offensive language we would normally take action against, and we simply cannot translate every single chat message they send. Although this dilemma has died down since circa 2018, it's still a problem we face today. I don't feel this is the only approach we should see to, either. Maybe implementing an Auto-Translator could be seen too aswell.

object to reinstating this policy, i like the alternative you've provided though as an auto translator could be really useful

It doesn't seem very fair to me to exclude people on the basis that might potentially be breaking rules. It is a fact of life that not everyone speaks a language you know.

If someone's saying insulting stuff, but no-one understands them, is it that much of a problem? It would be similar to me writing some gibberish like djjwjdn kgoolelfmxbal ltnfjkksnfkd dndk dekk, but with bad intentions.
Though, of course you would still punish them if you find out what they meant.
Also, it's not like we ban others speaking a different language in real life, just because they might be saying something bad.
--------- But I like the idea of some sort of translator on the server - as it could be fun to interact with other people that speak another language.

I definately don't agree with people being penalised for not speaking english. In fact, I'd be happier if we encouraged various players from around the world, as that surely could increase our playerbase.
For example, if you get players who speak X language who enjoy the server, they then invite some of their friends to join, especially if they feel welcomed.

I'm all for adding some kind of translator in game, so we can get players from all around the world.
But another issue arises. Imagine we do have both a translator and non-English-speaking players. Let's say one of them is qualified enough to apply for admin status, and decides to do so on the forums. - Both the pre-application checklist and the admin application template are in English. - The operator, even if they translated the template, would of course answer the questions in the template in their native language.
We'd end up with a situation in which both parties, the applicant and the admins (now operators can vote too but you get the idea), would have to translate what each other says all the time, which ends up being a huge hassle for everyone at best, and a poorly translated, incomprehensible, and maybe misunderstood mess at worst. Those who want to check the rules also have a disadvantages since the policy isn't translated either.
We can tackle this in various ways: 1. Suggesting everyone to use a browser/extension that can translate everything, so it's less annoying than putting each message through Google Translate, but still risk the misunderstanding of the rules and templates because, of course, translators are not perfect. 2. Adding to the forums a translator option, for both individual messages and the whole thread. This still has the problem of point 1, but also requires modifying the forums. 3. To complement one of the previous options, we could translate the policy and admin application templates with the help of bilingual players, reducing confusion at least when it comes to understanding the requirements. 4. Adding a requirement which says that admin applicants must speak English properly. This would be the easiest approach, but definitely not a respectful one.
From these points, 1 and 3 are in my opinion the ideal approaches. We cannot properly translate every person's message, since it would constantly require someone to act as a translator. With these, we can spare changing the forums and translating each player message manually. Additionally, the rules and requirements would be clear to those who want to check them. Of course, we would need people to volunteer for it.
The Discord server would also have a little problem, I'm not sure if a browser can translate the messages, and as far as I know, Discord doesn't have an option to translate messages in other languages.
I clearly missed the huge fact that being an admin requires easy communication. I apologize for my mistake.

4. Adding a requirement which says that admin applicants must speak English properly. This would be the easiest approach, but definitely not a respectful one. Saying that this is not a respectful solution is a good way to introduce a problem where there is none, because this used to be a question on the Super Admin application:Even with this question no longer being there, I am pretty sure we would currently not even consider an application with answers that are not in English.
