I'm switching the server back to scaleway. Server will be down roughly 2 hours depending on how fast the file transfers wants to be.
Edit: Everything looks to be alright, seems like it's completed. Only took 3 hours.

Aren't you the one who is supposed to archive data so that is exactly what doesn't happen? yes, and i do archive data Then your wrists should be broken, because losing data should be impossible if you archived it.

What is it that takes so long to transfer? I can't believe a MC server can take 3 hours to migrate from one server to another...?

It does when a direct FTP connection between the two servers isn't used, and I doubt that's what happened here. It can also happen if one of the two servers has a horrible upload speed, which I believe was the case here.

But even then, there isn't actually a lot you should need to transfer, most of it would make sense to roll from the standard build process and you just transfer map backups and schematics and roll a reset map? I just can't see how it should ever take this long... OR if it is going to take long because of slow internet spin up a Windows / Linux desktop on one of the machines to drive the transfer from one host to another if you're doing a full lift and shift.

A speed test on the previous server showed an upload speed of less than 20 megabits. TF has many GBs of data to transfer, a lot of it being adminworld.

Good god that sounds like a shite experience all around. I didn't realise you could get servers with much less than 100Mbps links now... I guess that makes sense, though 3 hours still seems very high. Even with a large admin world you should be able to compress it, shift the whole lot and restore with minimal effort, I guess I'd be more inclined to publish a download for the admin world and re-set it when you're doing a big move like this, give the server a proper clean down and re-build from scratch, generally quicker and proves your DR process.

Is that why I kept timing out on the previous server whenever I'd enter worlds like the adminworld?

Is that why I kept timing out on the previous server whenever I'd enter worlds like the adminworld? Yes, that is exactly why. What happens is that it takes so long to transfer the chunk data that it times out because Minecraft does not refresh the keep connection alive during chunk transfer (which IMO is a pretty serious flaw). The connection timeout is 30 seconds. If it takes even a millisecond longer than that, you get timed out.

Why not just use an automated configurable deployment system instead of having to manually transfer files?
