Perhaps it is a malicious browser extension that had its servers taken down?

ProBoards forums are made by connecting .png files, and adding some text and apply some hyperbolt on them, meaning the white frame you see behind the texts are all images. If you encounter the black chunks, it means the image file has not fully loaded, however you can stoll interact with them.

Ummmm I don't think it is done through .png files, I am pretty sure it is CSS.

My point is that the files aren't fully loaded , or not loaded correctly.

Since when the forum were made by connecting .png files when they clearly are using CSS?

The only time I’ve seen this happen is with adblockers or as Video said, adware. Try running a virus scan on your PC, or setting your adblocker to not run on this website. I guess just reload your browser when you see this. If it doesn’t help I’d suggest a look at graphical issues.

It is possible to select the square with inspect element, and if so, can you show us the HTML?

These images are usually small though and repeated in patterns. My point is that the files aren't fully loaded , or not loaded correctly. That's not it or else a larger portion of the page would be affected.
