At my house there is an underground region where it used to be a bunker during WW2. There was a crate from WW2 and it was NEVER opened before. It was from my ancestors before they died during a Japanese bombing.
It has money dating back to our 5th king and is too outdated to be converted to our current money. It also has diaries of the Japanese bombing and it was super chill to read.
Fortunately for me, I was a part of unlocking and decoding the key to open this crate. Honestly I don't think anyone cares but this crate is very rare and plays a MASSIVE role in my country's history.

If you have old money, then it's probably more valuable in that form than any conversion to current coinage

If he's smart he won't tell any news agency about it because once word comes up, museums and personal collectors will go to his front door to try and buy his family's stuff off his hands for an exuberant amount of money. I'd keep it quit and bask in the fact I own that. |

My great great grand mom saved a Jews life, by hiding him in a basement, she was also nearly caught.
My great great grand dad was sent to concentration camp to be killed, but he managed to escape and later on join the resistance.
I am very proud of them both!
