why are you using windows defender? Windows Defender is more than competent if you pair it with common sense. Antivirus is a cash-grab. In fact, Windows Defender is one of the least intrusive anti-viruses that I've seen. Many other anti-viruses MITM SSL in the browser. Many companies won't even give you the option of disabling these features.

Windows Defender has no idea what a virus is and actually it's the most intrusive as it does things without anyone's permission and pesters you all the time. Malwarebytes Pro is all anyone would ever need.

I use Windows Defender in combination with certain special tools like AdwCleaner (which I keep on a USB drive in case I need to use it on other PCs). Most newer browsers also have anti-malware built in (Chrome for example will block detected malware). On top of that, I use an ad-blocker which stops one of the biggest sources of malware... malicious ads. Why are you using windows is the real question here... Probably because no better alternative exists for the purposes of compatibility with the software used.

Probably because no better alternative exists for the purposes of compatibility with the software used. You take the ad thing a bit too seriously, this isn't 2008 where everyone used Internet Explorer 6 where it was so insecure that ads could actually do anything. Now ads are annoying, but give me a break they can't give you a virus unless you download some shit (or a new Internet Explorer/Edge exploit is found since they are connected to the system which is stupid). Also Chrome can't detect viruses, all it does is check the source which isn't a real virus detector unlike Malwarebytes Pro for example. Most antiviruses on the market will just do just that, check the source and pretend they're doing something. Although the biggest source for antiviruses is virustotal, if one antivirus on virustotal detects something, it's guaranteed a week later a scan of the same file will have every antivirus flag it. But forget all of that because this is 2016 where viruses aren't as big as they used to (well aside from Botnets and RATs but gl detecting that if crypted). You can also say Chrome resembles a RAT since they got caught recording people's webcam and microphone data and why I will NEVER use Chrome aside from the fact they're a google product itself. Firefox is best.
