So, I have a free op server like this one with similar forums and I have a permban list on the forums too. It had shown the IP addresses of the users who were permbanned. One member who was new reported my post because he claimed the Ip's were shown without the users consent, including his (he was server permbanned). He also said in my shoutbox that he wanted the ip's to be removed or he would 'take action.' Now at first, I just sent him a PM telling him not to use the phrase 'take action' in such vague a manner, as I slightly percieved it as a threat. Later, I just decided to forum ban him due to complications (he also bypassed a permban on-server) and it was because I felt a bit unsafe. Hopefully, I made the right choice for the safety of my forums. However, i'm not sure if he might do something really bad now that he's forum banned...
(I actually did remove the IPS btw)

When it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are but reformers."

You did the right thing. Even if he is just a troll, better safe than sorry.

You are free to ban him regardless of what he has done; after all, you are the owner of both the server and forums. However, if you are also using a free forum service, it's possible that there is a certain sentence in the terms of service that forbids you from releasing his IP publicly.
