I have been having OS problems lately. After using my computer for a while, applications freeze for a split second, and resume. But then, when I try to open another program, nothing happens.
If I click for the start menu, I will be confined to that start menu only. I cannot open anything there either.
And it has only happened once, but everything I highlighted turned black. (On the desktop)
As I said previously, this doesn't happen as soon as I turn on my laptop. Do you have any solutions, diagnoses?

Eightforums is your best friend. That's if you have Windows 8. I don't know because you didn't tell us.

Do a system restore to when it did work.
Don't worry, Dan, I got you:
<WickedGamingUK> Reinstall your OS.

Well, you could take it into a Best Buy store...

I saw your videos before, I don't think I've seen anything like that before, take your PC or whatever to your local PC World and ask them.

_Windows @hexerei452 I had it happen not too long ago. I was able to all of my files still, but it said that it could not find my desktop folder, though it was in the right place... Any more ideas? While Best Buy is normally shit, it may be what I have to do.

Have you tried a system restore? I'd like to try an avoid that, even though that may be the thing that ultimately happens. I am waiting for an update to Windows. Hopefully, that will fix it.

If you are on Windows 8, you can do a "System Refresh" where it will basically remove all your programs and refresh your system. Its a easier solution to a full OS re-install.

System restore will not wipe your PC, its basically just a rollback. Files are not affected, and most programs will not be either.
