Bringing back a past suggestion, why don't we still add a chat filtering plugin, but make it toggleable to different levels. For example, /chatfilter high would block all forms of profanity/racist slurs and /chatfilter off would not blur out anything. This would make the younger age groups happy and the older age groups with the same freedom they had before. Same issue, just in a different wrapper: what is the default level?

I guess the default level would be the level that appeases the most amount of people, a full block of all profanity etc. If you wish to have more freedom, toggle your chat level so that you're able to see the entire chat.

This could work too with how people are on the server. But the issue is that it feels like it's completely ignoring the rule I mentioned earlier. If we were to add this, we might as well try to change the rule then.

I would say medium or even high priority for all new players as they will have high expectations if they are being introduced to something new. Of course if they stay to learn or ask a question on chat filtering, they will eventually learn how to changed there filter to a more strict or loose version. This still allows for chat freedom.

I support having a chat filter that's toggleable as discussed above^^. I believe Hypixel has something like this.

I don't know if it is possible to implement, but what about adding a command that blocks you from seeing messages with certain levels of profanity? Or maybe censor it for them? People who do not like them could choose not to see them, instead of having to block profanity altogether.

As for "limiting of freedom" if certain words are restricted in any way: freedom of speech is a thing (to an extent), yes. But that doesn't mean that you get to go around insulting people, and just be rude for no reason. When that happens, it turns away potential new players and just creates an overall negative and tense atmosphere.

What do you mean? Do you mean that even if the filter is added people can still insult each other? If so, of course that is going to be the case, it is always the case. But if someone starts picking on another person, they have to be punished accordingly, that is the reason we have admins. We can not avoid the fact that some people will always be trolls or toxic players, no matter what the rules say, and administrators are in place to punish those rulebreakers and trolls and make the server a more peaceful place.
